Description
Prästbuo was created as a salary benefit for the priests of Floda parish and has been leased out during the late 1800s - early 1900s. In the early 1970s, Prästbuo was refurbished and an electric light trail 2.5 km was built by Björbo IF's ski section with the voluntary work of many Björbo residents.
When the activity declined, Källbäckens village was allowed to use Prästbuo as a village cabin. Västerås Diocese, which took over the management from Floda parish, offered Prästbuo for sale in 2003. After many discussions with various interested parties, the happy news came that Friluftsfrämjandet, thanks to John Mattson's great commitment, would be bought and renovated.
The renovation was carried out during the summer of 2004 with the help of EU funds, Gagnef municipality, corporate sponsorship and a large number of private individuals, including Harry Fredriksson. Friluftsfrämjandet has a 50-year nature conservation agreement with the Swedish Forestry Agency, as the rare leather lichen is found on a stand of aspen in the area.
The entire area consists of about 9 ha, of which 7.9 ha is considered a biotope worthy of protection and is covered by the agreement. On the nine-hectare area there is currently a shepherd's hut, three barns and a meeting room with room for about 45 people, electricity and water. The aim is to preserve Prästbuo as an asset for outdoor recreation and for future development of outdoor recreation and nature conservation
