Grejsans fäbod

The idea is breathtaking. Once upon a time, there were about 20 000 living pastures in Sweden. In your imagination, you can picture the beckoning, rattling and mooing of cows... It must have been noisy and festive when men and women, cows, horses and goats scrambled up the hills to the fäbod ramparts. Today, pastoral life is disappearing, but there are still some pastures left where you can at least get an idea of the feeling of pastoral life. Grejsans fäbodar is one of them.

Grejsans fäbodar is situated high and beautiful on the slope above the lake Grejsan, about a mile northwest of Lamborn. Some of the dikes are still open and from the upper part of the pasture you have a nice view of the surroundings. Animals still graze here in the summer, helping to keep the landscape open and bringing the pasture to life.

The farms are in clusters, many surrounded by fences. Several of the houses are in their original condition. Small, gray log cabins where at any time you can expect the plot to peek out in one of the windows ...

Bring your coffee basket, take a walk around the pasture, enjoy the view. Here you have the opportunity to get closer to our past.
