Description
Flogberget mine is one of Sweden's few visitor mines. The mine is located high up with a mile-wide view of Lake Leran. Iron ore has been mined here since the 16th century, but it was in 1873 that mining started on a larger scale.
Exciting for the visitor is that both underground galleries and dry open-cast mines are available if you join a guided tour during the summer season. During the summer, the Flogberg Society also gives a number of dramatized tours about life in the mine.
A former miners' dwelling from Östanberg has been converted into the Gruvstugan summer café. In the old-fashioned setting, you can buy coffee and light meals in the summer. On the upper floor there is an exhibition that tells the history of Flogberget in words and pictures.
There are nice resting facilities for packed lunches.
Flogberget's mine is one of the destinations in Ekomuseum Bergslagen.
