Description
Åkersön is a nature reserve close to urban areas with many qualities. As the deciduous forest dominates, bird life is rich and on an early spring morning the concert is at its peak. It is possible to experience the various stages of spring in an easily accessible way here. The gravel path, Se människan, winds through the deciduous forest, past Åkerötjärnen and along the river. There are several benches to sit and rest on and to enjoy nature or one of the exciting works of art.
Accessibility
Along the way there are easy-to-read signs with telephone numbers. Please call the telephone number on each sign to have the information read out in Swedish and English. Åkersön is easily accessible to many people and the path, Se människan, is designed for pedestrians with prams and wheelchairs to be able to get around easily.
Lövskogen
The area is mainly deciduous forest and many trees have become old and decayed. Old and dead trees are very valuable for, for example, lichens, fungi and insects - which then become food for many different birds. It may seem messy to have dead trees lying around, but remember that they give life to many different species. It is often said that 'dead wood lives'.
Art event locations
Along the way you will pass several places with art. These were created through a unique pilot project carried out between 2009 and 2012, in which people with disabilities interested in art collaborated and created art together with established artists. At each site there are signs with telephone numbers to call for more information. The art project has given the path through the area its name, See the Man.

Facts
About 380 million years ago, a four-kilometer meteorite hit what is commonly known as the Siljan Ring. The site is the largest crater in Western Europe and a so-called "star year". It contains unique rocks that have been used by humans throughout history in agriculture, limestone mining and early industrialization. The area is also widely known for its magnificent nature and beautiful landscapes, which have attracted scientists, artists, writers and visitors in a tourism industry that started centuries ago.
The Siljan Ring has long been of interest to geologists and is today a major source of knowledge. The geopark is the narrative voice of the place. In 2019, Siljan Geopark was awarded national geopark status by the Swedish Geological Survey (SGU).
