Vägen till Prästbodarna

The road to Prästbodarnas fäbod is an old fäbodstig that has been marked by Envikens Hembygdsförening. The path goes through forest of varying age where pine and spruce dominate. Some shorter stretches you walk on a forest road. Since Prästbodarna is located high and beautiful on Skallberget, there is a lot of uphill on the way there. Although you mainly walk over drier ground, there are some wetter passages so boots or boots are good to have. The markings on the trees are orange, but you will also come across the older markings which are blue.

About halfway along the trail there is a rest area with some simple benches called Olars vilvall. There are also several marked sites along the trail that show activity from earlier farming and forestry: coal beds, tar pits and remains of the old settlement of Dalvallen. On the steepest climb along the trail, up Brändberget, there is a spring to the right of the path where you can fill up with water.

The first cabin to the left of the trail when you reach Prästbodarna can be used as a rest cabin. Bring your own firewood if you want to make a fire and don't forget to first open and then close the hatch in the roof where the smoke goes out.

The sheepfold itself has been on the site for over 500 years and has also been called Skallbergets fäbodar. It is a large pasture with more than 70 cabins. In summer, animals still roam the forest. It is sometimes possible to buy cheese and other farm products and you can also book an overnight stay in a farm cottage or in a hostel. From Prästbodarna you can continue another kilometer and come down in Dådran. From here you can continue hiking on the mountain pasture trails in Rättvik municipality.
