Description

Blekinge has a long military history. Karlskrona was founded in 1680 to meet the need for a naval base in Southern Sweden. The naval city of Karlskrona has been designated by UNESCO as a world heritage site.

Even today, the Swedish Armed Forces are active in Blekinge. To be able to practice realistically, there are various military protection areas. When the military is not using these areas for training most of them are generally open to the public and are in many cases popular for recreation. However, there are also some areas that are always sealed off and public access is prohibited.

It is very important to read the information boards and signs on site. Never pass a closed roadblock! When the areas are sealed-off, entering is always prohibited. At many of the shooting ranges, a red flag is also raised to indicate that dangerous activity is taking place.

On the Swedish Armed Forces' website, you will find more information about the Naval base's various training areas and shooting ranges in Blekinge and when exercises are taking place (information in Swedish).
