Skottsbergska Gården in the historic quarter

Skottsbergska Gården is one of Sweden’s major monuments, and is found in the historic quarter of Karlshamn. There are plenty of castles and stately homes, but homes of merchants, preserved in their original condition, as is the case here, are incredibly rare, not only in Sweden but in Europe as a whole. Skottsbergska Gården is Sweden’s best-preserved historic merchant’s house. As a home of an urban citizen, the house is also a prime example of eighteenth-century interior design. This has ensured a secure future for Skottsbergska Gården as a listed building, and a monument to the trade and enterprise in our historic towns on into the future. Following thorough restoration in 1955-1959, the house is a virtually unique monument to the architecture and the history of housing among the Swedish eighteenth-century middle class.
