Description
The Mission House in Stenshamn is owned by the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden. Originally, the building was a house, which in the early twentieth century was converted into a mission house by the islanders themselves. Religion was very important to the islanders and in the first half of the twentieth century many of the islanders were practising Christians. Most belonged to the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden, who had a church on Ungskär to which members on the surrounding islands belonged. When the Pentecostal Movement arrived, many switched to the Pentecostal church in Torhamn.
