Description
Karlshamns Museum at
the corner of Drottninggatan-Vinkelgatan, tells about Karlshamn's development
and life in the city during different periods. Seafaring and fishing dominate,
but the most famous is the small memorial room for Alice Tegnér, who has written
and set many of Swedens most famous children's songs to music.
The tobacco barn shows the manufacture of snuff and cigarettes. The tobacco industry in Karlshamn dates back to
the 17th century. During the 18th century, there were around 40 factories that
covered the needs of all of Småland. The Dutch House is reminiscent of Dutch merchants with business activities in
the city.
Skottsbergska gården at Drottninggatan 91 is one of the country's
best-preserved trading houses from the 18th century. In the basement there is a
shop from the same time period and on the courtyard there are a number of
sheds, warehouses, stables etc.
The Art gallery at
Vinkelgatan 7 is housed in a refurbished warehouse building. Collections are mostly
Swedish paintings from the 40´s, donated by Olof Häkter. The beautiful, painted
wooden ceiling comes from the city's old town hall.
Art exhibitions are regularly shown here.
The Punch and Printing Museum is located in the same entrance as the Art gallery. Here it is shown how the Karlshamn
punch was made in the town in the 19th century and here, among other things,
the old steam boiler, punch kettle and lager barrels have been preserved.
