When Karön became part of the spa town, it did not take long before plans were afoot for a “schweizeri” (a Swiss-style inn). The original building was designed by N.O Berlin and completed in 1877. Several different people have rented the restaurant that initially was licensed to serve beer and wine but not spirits. This led to the businessmen building their own locked spirits cabinet, but this was able to be abolished when full rights were gained in 1902. The popularity of the spa resulted in an increase in the number of visitors to Karön and the schweizeri was renovated in 1906 with a facade in national romantic art nouveau. In terms of style, it belongs to a different era to the other buildings on the island but it still blends in well. A large dining veranda was added in 1940, changing the character of the building. If you would like to spend the night on Karön, there is a holiday village with sea views from all the cottages. Source: Karön – Karön – en pärla I brunnstadens krona
