Description
The spa of Ronneby brunn was known going back to the eighteenth century but its heyday was in the nineteenth century. Karön was something of a subsidiary to the spa park as guests were shipped down to the island on steamers via the river Ronnebyån. The first building to be constructed was the cold bathhouse, one of whose visitors was King Oscar II in 1890. However, it was replaced by sea bathing in the 1930s. Materials from the old bathhouse were used to make the bathing huts that still stand to this day. Karön also boasts sixteen fantastic summer homes, which have stood since the end of the nineteenth century. They had to be built bearing in mind that the value of the site would increase if smaller buildings appeared in the landscape. In their day, they were holiday homes for the upper echelons of society, and a relatively large number too for such a small place. Today the houses are privately owned by people living in Ronneby and further afield. Source: Karön – en pärla I brunnstadens krona
