Description
Asschierska house was
built as a town hall in 1682 in the half-timbered technique.
The city jail was also
housed here as well as the city cellar. With its half-timbered facade, the
building was different from the other timbered houses around it.
On the roof there used
to be a tower with a bell that was used in case of fire. In 1814, the town hall
became too small and the building became bourgeois housing instead. The last
owners were the Asschier family who named the house. In 1957, the building was
bought and restored by the Swedish Commercial Bank. The house is today declared
as a listed building.
