Wood tar was one of Sweden’s most important export good and was until the late 1800’s world leading in producing it. This is a remain from one of the many tar pits that was used during that time.

Drive to Sävsjöström and the follow the road towards Merhult. After about 2 km turn left at a small sign that says “Tjärdal”. Follow that gravel road until you reach the tar pit.
