Description
In Bispebo you are greeted by old spruces and mossy rocks. The forest is difficult for humans to access, but it is a haven for various mosses and lichens. This is the place for those who want a genuine and challenging nature experience among boulders and soft lichen mats.
Outdoor life
To get to Bispebo, you first have to walk about 750 meters on a gravel road. In the reserve there are no visitor facilities or landscaped paths, but here you can wander around on nature's terms. This means that you can get over large stones, boulders and fallen trees in the dense and damp forest.
Nature
The forest consists mainly of spruce forests of various ages, but in the wetter areas there are also deciduous forests and older pines. There is plenty of dead wood, i.e. standing and lying dead branches and tree trunks. Several different threatened and unusual lichens and mosses thrive on the dead wood and in the damp areas, such as the flat spider moss and the small pale spike.
Here you can also find the bomb marble, a very threatened and special fungus. To survive, the fungus needs mossy old coniferous forests, just like here in Bispebo.

Bispebo is 1.5 miles from Sala and Västerås. Drive towards Ransta on road 56, Salavägen. Turn at the sign "Ransta 5". From the railroad crossing at Ransta, it is about 4.6 kilometers to the parking lot and forest road at the reserve. Turn right when you see an earth cellar on the right. There is a parking lot and an information board. Follow the forest road for about 1.2 kilometers to reach the reserve boundary.
