Description

On a late winter evening in November 1923, the first train chugged into Storuman railway station. The station building was designed by SJ's chief architect Folke Zettervall and built in 1921-1925.

DESCRIPTION

The building is timbered with horizontal timber on 1 ½ levels and has a pitched roof. The style has features of both national romanticism and 20th-century classicism. In 1961, the station house was renovated and the building became a state building monument in 1986. Inlandsbanan opened for traffic on November 15, 1923 between Storuman - Vilhelmina and December 1, 1929 between Storuman - Sorsele. Initially, all traffic was dominated by trains pulled by steam locomotives, when the rail buses made their entrance, these took over passenger traffic.
