  • Nature reserve

Actions

Description

Natural forest with elements of moorland.

Dörrfjället consists of old natural forest stands with no or limited impact of recent forestry measures. The area consists of both wetter areas with spruce forest and drier areas dominated by pine. The forests have a favorable microclimate and structures such as overstory, dead wood and tree stands with age variation are of great importance for the area's biodiversity.

The natural forest character of the area creates a wilderness feeling, which makes it interesting and attractive to visitors seeking such experiences. The north-eastern part of the area slopes steeply down towards Klarälvdalen, which provides a view of the valley and the mountains to the east.

Animals and plants

Seventeen signal species in the groups of lichens and fungi have been found in the area, of which ten species are also red-listed. The area is home to the pine tick, which only grows on old pines and usually only occurs on trees that are around 150-200 years old or older. Hull lichen is associated with old deciduous trees in forest environments with high and even humidity. The purple loosestrife is another species that requires high humidity, but unlike the hull lichen, it prefers conifers, mainly late-growing spruce.
