Description
To the north and east of Skogsö swamp is an area of allotments beautifully situated in a sunny field. Around it are pastures and stables. Today it is an idyllic and rural place, perhaps suitable for a picnic in the green. On an August day in 1719, the scene was very different. From a height, the Swedes attacked a large group of Russians who had landed on eastern Skogsö. A bloody battle was fought in the fields. Archaeologists have found lots of bullets, parts of uniforms and other things in pastures and among allotments.
Horticulture here started in 1904, after the Wallenberg family bought Skogsö. The vegetables were then delivered to Saltsjöbaden's Grand Hotel. The red house was the gardener's home.
