Lybeck, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Skåne län
Actions
Description
Lybeck Nature Reserve comprises an island of approximately 3.5 hectares located in Lake Krageholm. The island is dominated by deciduous forest with a rich vegetation and to protect nesting birds, there is a year-round grazing ban.
In the 18th century, a French park belonging to Krageholm Castle was located on Lybeck, but over time a deciduous forest developed on the island. The dominant tree species in the forest was elm for a long time, but elm disease has hit the elm population hard in recent decades. Today, beech and oak dominate with elements of lime, hornbeam and ash.
Lybeck has a species-rich vegetation with species such as ostrich fern, wild garlic, moon violet and hollow needlewort. There are many different lichens in the reserve and several bird species nest on the island.
**A tree ban applies on the island all year round. From 1 March to 31 October, it is also forbidden to enter the water 100 meters from the island.
