Description

Stor-Dragåsen Nature Reserve is located on a hill in the forest landscape, north of Dellensjöarna in northern Hälsingland. The area was badly affected by storm felling during Storm Ivar in December 2013. Large quantities of felled trees are found in the area. Stor-Dragåsen is located about 11 kilometers north of Friggesund and comprises a 97-hectare natural forest area.

The nature reserve consists of a mixture of coniferous and mixed coniferous forests. On the higher parts and parts of the southern and eastern slopes there is a lean pine forest and really old pines. Old traces of fire are found on several pines. Older spruce forests grow on the northern slopes. Old aspen and willow grow throughout the area.

High natural values

Despite the fact that the area has been affected by forestry, there are high natural values. The forest is home to the pine thistle, dwarf beech lichen, rose thistle, star thistle, violet-grey thistle lichen, coral thistle fungus and lung lichen. All are red-listed.

A national red list is a compilation of the status (risk of extinction) of species within a country's borders. The status of species is assessed using a number of criteria. These include population size, abundance, distribution and trends.

Stor-Dragåsen was severely affected by storm felling during Storm Ivar in December 2013. The storm felled large quantities of trees, both scattered throughout the area but also as several large ones.
