Spjärsbodarna

In the surroundings of some of Falu municipality's highest mountains lies one of Svärdsjö's largest mountain huts, Spjärsbodarna, with around 30 cottages. Alone or in clusters, they stand on the wooded slope down to Lake Spjärsen.

Here, on a small headland, you can take a refreshing dip, or why not try to pull up a perch for dinner? Just remember to buy a fishing license before you set the hook. If the swim isn't cooling enough, you can try to find one of the three cold springs on the slope on the way back.

Spjärsbodarna is a living pasture, even though cows were milked and butter churned here long ago. Every summer, animals graze here and help keep the pasture open from the surrounding forest. To keep the animals on the pasture, the whole paddock and almost all the farms are surrounded by fences.
