Fagerberget

Fagerberget is mentioned in the 1664 inventory of mountain farms and had five farmers.

At the time of the 1806-1812 census, there were 37 sharecroppers here. 26 of the sharecroppers came from Björbo, six from Källbäcken and five from Svedjebyn.

When the railway between Björbo and Nyhammar was built in 1905-1907, several farmers lived in Fagerberget and their names and some notes, written in pencil or cut with a knife, are still preserved on the walls of several cottages.

Older cabin owners still remember the thunderous sound when the horse-hooves from Gagnef galloped over the rocky slopes along the carefully fenced fäbod road. This was in the late 1920s and the "summer off" Gagnef horses were generally around 20 in number.

The sisters Täpp Anna Olsson (1891-1974) and Lissel Karin Olsson (1895-1978) were the last herdsmen in Fagerberget. Together with Anna's husband Täpp Lars Olsson (1888-1969), they were here until the mid-1960s with two cows and a horse.

The hay meadows in Fagerberget were assessed in the inventory of Dalarna's meadows and pastures in 1988-90 to be of great value through long-term continuity and representative and varied vegetation with interesting flora.

In a cultural-historical environmental analysis, the Svedjebodarna farmstead has been deemed to be of national interest. There are also many old pastoral carvings in the timber walls.
