Description

Adjacent to the Sala silver mine is the Aspenstorp nature reserve. In the area you can see clear traces of the mining that was previously carried out here for several hundred years, such as mine holes. There is a lot of lime in the soil, which means that certain types of plants and mosses thrive here.

Aspenstorp is a popular outdoor area for the people of Salab. There are several different systems of paths. Some of the paths are challenging, but there are also several where you can get around with a pram or walker. Some of the trails are intended for mountain bikers and are clearly marked as such. One of the mountain bike trails crosses and sometimes shares the route with the trails in the reserve. In other words, it is a place of multiple interests and it is important to show consideration for each other.

If you are interested in history, the Silver Trail, which describes the area's mining environments, is recommended. The trail is about 1.3 kilometers long and is located in the western part of the area. If you have a picnic basket with you, there are nice places to stop along the old mining canal that passes through the area.

Directions

If you plan to visit Aspenstorp by car, it is best to start from Västeråsleden. From Sala and the roundabout at Lärkans sports facility, head south for about 750 meters. Here you turn right, onto Fagerstavägen. After another 1.3 kilometers, turn left onto Drottning Christinas väg. You will find a parking lot after about 420 meters on the left side of the road. From the parking lot you can easily enter the nature reserve on foot. If you are visiting the Sala silver mine, you can easily reach the area on foot if you follow Drottning Christinas väg north from Drottning Christinas schakt. After about 170 meters, you can turn onto the marked mining path that leads into the nature reserve.
