Description

The landscape north of Brännträsk is extremely varied, alternating between mire and forest.

Bog orchid

The mires vary in kind – some are rich in calcium and other minerals, others are poor. The protected bog orchid grows in the richer parts.

Angel’s hair

The area is mostly home to spruce forest. Fairly extensive felling was carried out in some parts in the 1960s, but the natural values are still high. There is plenty of dead wood on the ground, home to a large number of rare fungi such as the Skeletocutis odora. The ancient spruce swamp woods in the middle of the reserve are a good environment for lichens. Angel’s hair can be found here, for example, which is a very rare species.
