Description

Långnäset Nature Reserve is located on the northern shore of Lake Bornan. The reserve features a variety of natural habitats, including species-rich meadows and pastures, coniferous forests and deciduous woodland. Each habitat has its own distinctive character and supports a diverse range of species.

The grazed pasture is home to harebell, milkwort, lesser butterfly-orchid, catsfoot, heath grass, cowslip and dropwort. You can also find matgrass, frog orchid, fen violet, adder’s-tongue and field gentian, including the early-flowering variety.

Field gentian is a particularly noteworthy species found in the reserve. This rare and Red Listed vascular plant thrives in unfertilised meadows and pastures that are traditionally managed through mowing or grazing.

The area is also home to several rare fungi, such as clavaria species, earthtongues and various waxcaps.

Långnäset is a peninsula extending into Lake Bornan. In spring, access to the peninsula can be difficult, as water levels in the lake are often high.
