Put on your hiking boots! Skärsnäs is easy to walk and you can also reach it easily by canoe. Many feel called so be prepared for company. Skärsnäs is covered with deciduous forest and large pine trees close to the shore. The birdlife in the beech forest offers small birds and the lake is home to species such as osprey, great crested cormorant and great bittern. In the far north there are remains of a quarry that testify to an industrial activity based on the high-quality diabase.

Avoid crowds at weekends

The parking lot and access points are often full during weekends. Perhaps cycle here or take a long walk through the area? Congestion is greatest at entrances and rest areas.

Old deciduous trees

The beach forest, like the forest on the islands, consists in part of old, coarse-barked pines and old, partly rot-damaged, beech trees. The pines are important habitats for many wood-living insects and the rotten wood of the beech trees is suitable as a habitat for many beetle species. To the south, the oak cover increases and there are some really large oaks and beech trees here.

Younger beech forest with potential

The approximately 120-year-old beech forest is originally a production forest with a lack of dead wood. It will age, the trees will die and be replaced by new ones. Over time, the beech forest will become an important habitat for a diversity of animal and plant species.

Skärsnäs bird life

The bird life in Skärsnäs offers small birds that thrive in the beech forest. The lake is home to species such as osprey, great crested grebe and great crested grebe, as well as small waders such as the common snipe.

Outdoor life

The area is easy to walk, the Skåneleden trail runs nearby and canoeists in the Immeln-Raslången-Halen system pass along the shore. It is possible to barbecue in the designated fireplaces in the reserve. Remember to bring charcoal if you are going to barbecue and to take your rubbish home.
