Grönskolan (The Green School)

The area surrounding the square can be described as a knowledge quarter, where
visitors can trace the development of education over more than 135 years. The
Green School was built between 1904 and 1905, while the Back School, located
behind it, was built in 1890. Both buildings originally served as primary
schools.

On the opposite side of the square stands the Central
School, which today houses the Gällivare Museum of Culture. This school,
serving pupils in the lower and middle years of compulsory education, was in
use from 1913 to 1982. Behind it is Gällivare's modern upper secondary school, Kunskapshuset
(the Knowledge Centre).
