Svarttjärnshöjden, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Värmlands län
Actions
Description
Svarttjärnshöjden is rich in vascular plants, lichens, mosses and fungi
There is natural forest on the steep slopes of the reserve. The most common tree species is spruce. On the heights, the trees are sparser and the soil is drier. Further down, the forest is closed and the humidity increases.
The reserve was established to preserve the valuable natural environments and biodiversity.
Animals and plants
The natural forest contains habitats that are important for rare mosses, lichens and fungi. They thrive, for example, on old, coarse-barked trees, dying trees and decaying wood. In more accessible parts of the area, you can see stumps that are traces of past forestry.
Here and there the ground is affected by a rock called greenstone. It is dark and slightly shimmering green. Greenstone acts much like lime and means that the flora is rich in herbs. Examples of species include the wood anemone Hepatica nobilis, the water lily Lathraea squamaria and the yew Taxus baccata. The yew can look like an irregular shrub or a small tree.
