STF Visby Hamn Hostel

In addition to the rooms in the old prison building, there are also apartments with private kitchens and bathrooms. The former exercise yard offers plenty of space to relax in the garden furniture. Adjacent to the hostel, there is a large and lively outdoor terrace open late into the night, with live music several evenings a week.

Here, you stay close to Visby’s rich cultural history, winding alleys and lively restaurant scene. The hostel is also the perfect starting point before and after your hiking or cycling holiday on Gotland – just a stone’s throw from the ferry back to the mainland.

Visby prison was built in 1857 and opened two years later. Over the years, around 13,000 prisoners passed through its walls. The last prisoner left the prison in 1998, after which the building was converted into a hostel. Since 2026, the hostel has been operated by STF.
