Styggvrån, Naturreservat

The Styggvrån nature reserve is a forest reserve that, thanks to the alkaline soil, has a distinctive ground flora with, among other things, bladderwort and witch hazel.

The Styggvrån nature reserve was established to protect the high natural values and species diversity that have been noted in the area. The reserve preserves limestone-dominated natural forest and a deciduous forest with important structures such as old trees, dying and dead trees and dead wood.

The area's forests and the character of the area with its ecosystem and biodiversity will be preserved.

The area is part of the larger Natura 2000 area Storområdet Örten, which is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.

Animals and plants

The reserve is located in a region with many prominent hyperite mountains. The high calcium content of these rocks gives rise to a distinctive flora, including cornflower, spring pea, witch hazel, lime and the endangered species shadow violet. Green shield moss, flat feather moss and the endangered mushrooms border tick and aspen jelly lichen can be mentioned among the cryptogams.

In the reserve, you can find the bird species bee hawk, wolverine, capercaillie, tawny owl, pearl owl, gray woodpecker, woodpecker, three-toed woodpecker and grouse.
