Description

The Örtenberget nature reserve is located in a very hilly and species-rich forest landscape that is broken by the Örten lakes.

The Örtenberget nature reserve was established to preserve a grand-dominated mixed forest in a hyperitic steep slope with old pines, deciduous trees, dead wood in the form of lying trees and a rich moss, lichen and vascular plant flora.

The reserve is part of the Natura 2000 area Storområdet Örten, which in turn is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.

Animals and plants

Hyperite bedrock occurs in several places in the area, which together with moving groundwater means that there are several areas with rich vascular plant flora and deciduous trees such as aspen, hazel, forestry and hardwood trees. The area also has a rich moss and lichen flora, including aspen jelly lichen, wood bumblebee moss and spruce lichen. The reserve has a rich bird life, including wolverine, skylark, nuthatch and lesser spotted woodpecker in the area. White-backed woodpeckers have previously been found in the area.
