Description

Here, the humidity is very noticeable, which can be seen not least in the lichen cover of the spruces.
Ivana is a fire refuge, which means that the area has not burned for a very long time. This is particularly noticeable in the northern forest stands of the summit area. The area is located at high altitude about 500-600 meters above sea level.

The reserve was established to preserve a natural forest with a high species diversity and to protect one of the country's largest populations of long-bearded lichen. The area is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.

Ivana is Finnish and reminds us of the time when Finnish immigrants lived and broke ground in northwest Värmland. You can still see the traces of settlements and pastures that have been farmed for a long time in the area.

Animals and plants

In addition to rare lichens, there are also endangered mosses and fungi. Typical birds of Norrland, such as the three-toed woodpecker, the lichen jay, the tawny owl and the red grouse, can be found along with the grouse and capercaillie, which are more common at our latitudes.

Facilities

There is an information sign at the parking lot and the reserve boundary. There is a marked path leading to and through the reserve, which after a few kilometers reaches the Gartosofta nature reserve.
