The word vättle has to do with wetness and water, and the large number of lakes, bogs and smaller watercourses shows the origin of the word. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Vättlefjäll was basically one large heather moor, with bare rocky knolls sticking up. The name fjäll derives from this time.
