Description

The small reserve Nåntuna lund on the eastern side of the Fyrisån river has hazel and oak trees. In early spring, the ground is covered with bluebells, which are later replaced by other flowering herbs.

Some of the county's largest and oldest oaks are also found here, and the hazel is also very old. Six oaks are real giant oaks, one of which has a circumference of more than 7 meters. It is hollow and suffered damage to its crown from a lightning strike almost 90 years ago, but still continues to grow.

In the north-eastern corner of the reserve there is a burial ground almost two thousand years old. Some of the graves are marked with standing stones, others are triangular, round or square in shape. Nåntuna grove was part of Linnaeus' regular excursions to the parish of Denmark in the 1760s. Unfortunately, Linnaeus is brief about Nåntuna grove in writing, he only says that it is beautiful and similar to some other groves in the Uppsala area. In his time the grove was probably more open than today.

Follow in Linnaeus' footsteps and take a stroll in the grove. Be especially careful with the hollow oak and avoid stepping on its roots. So many people want to admire the giant dimensions of the oak that it can be damaged by our feet.
