Hjälmarbaden - Västra Björkön

Distance 12 km one way. Time required: 3 hours one way. Difficulty: 2, medium, involves paddling on open water. Paddling along the shore is recommended. You first paddle through southern Ässundet and follow the southern edge of Mellanfjärden towards Björkön. The shores of Mellanfjärden are largely reed-lined. When you reach Södra Björkösundet, you follow the western edge of Björkön and just before Norra Björkösundet you come to a wind shelter with doors that offer a nice view of Mellanfjärden. The shelter can accommodate 4-5 overnight stays. There are also two fireplaces and firewood but limited tent space. For camping, the island's central grassy areas, which can be reached from the eastern harbor, are better suited. Entry and exit at the kayak dock. The nature along the route is characterized by buildings and deciduous forest and there are many reeds along the beaches. Watch out! You have a good chance of seeing both sea eagles and ospreys here.
