Description

Just north of Linde church, about half a mile north of Hemse village, is the Lindeberget nature reserve. From Linde's old schoolhouse there are stairs leading up the mountain. From here, the view of the flat landscape is striking and there is a nice picnic area with barbecue facilities. There is a marked hiking trail in the area. There are two large ancient castles with the remains of old masonry on the northern part of the mountain.

Lindeberget consists of a distinctive inland cliff that rises high above the flat landscape south of Lojstahajd. The plateau of the mountain has a noticeably hilly surface and lies at an altitude of between 51 and 63 meters. The cliffs consist of 20 to 30 meter high precipices that are particularly prominent to the west, north and east. From the crest of the mountain there are virtually unobstructed views in these directions, making the area a popular destination. The steep cliffs provide unusual and interesting habitats in the form of shady heaths, overhanging cliffs, weathered limestone boulders and shady scree slopes. The forest in the north slope is in places very sparse and dominated by spruce. Up on the mountain there are undulating sections where the bedrock is made up of reef limestone. Parts of the plateau lack loose soil layers and consist of heavily weathered rocky ground. Karst in the form of noticeably weathered cracks is present in many places. In the eastern part of the cliff there is a so-called dry valley formed by erosion of meltwater from the ice sheet. On the western part of the mountain there are prominent swollen fossil beach embankments of limestone gravel.

Lindeberget is a fine example of an inland cliff consisting of a mosaic of old coniferous mixed forests and alpine meadows with very high natural values. The area is very rich in species and is home to a large number of rare and red-listed species. In the cliffs on the northern part of the mountain grows the unusual fern lime bracken. On the cliffs there are beautiful stands of clove. The alvar meadows are rich in herbs and are home to species such as sundew, wood anemone, woodruff, wood anemone and the rare species alvar anemone. The area is home to a wide range of species of large fungi that clearly show that the mountain has been covered by forest for a long time. These include the black-green spider mite, blue-footed spider mite, yellow lamb's-quarters and black thorn fungus. The rare pistachio spider has its only known habitat here in the Nordic countries.
