Description
The nature reserve is home to unusual and rare species associated with deciduous mixed coniferous and deciduous forests.
The nature reserve consists of two geographically separate sub-areas. The distance between the areas is about 160 m. The larger area, located on the eastern shore of Västra Örten, consists of a steep southwestern slope covered with deciduous grand-dominated mixed coniferous forest. In the upper part of the slope, pine is common, while spruce dominates elsewhere. Old aspens and wide-crowned birches are interspersed in the stand. There is plenty of coarse dead wood of spruce and birch in the area. Both decaying logs and windfalls in various stages of decomposition occur.
The smaller sub-area in the east consists of an arable mound surrounded by overgrown farmland. The grove is dominated by aspen with elements of spruce, birch and willow. Several old, coarse aspens with woodpecker marks and nest holes are found in the sub-area.
The Dansarebacken nature reserve was established to preserve biodiversity and to preserve and recreate valuable natural environments with their flora and fauna. The purpose of the nature reserve is also to support opportunities for nature experience and outdoor recreation. The nature reserve is part of the European network of protected nature Natura 2000. The nature reserve is part of the Natura 2000 area Storområdet Örten.
Animal and plant life
In the larger area, green shield moss is found on several old decaying spruce logs and the three-toed woodpecker marks its territory in the area. The nature reserve, together with other similar areas in the surrounding forest landscape, is an important foraging and nesting area for several bird species.
