Lyadalen, Naturreservat

Lyadalen Nature Reserve starts in Båstad and climbs up the northern slope of Hallandsåsen. Footpaths lead you through Lyadalen's lush deciduous forests and ancient pastures. Don't miss Lyabäckens deep ravine or the Brattenborg viewpoint, which offers magnificent views in fine weather.

Rich deciduous forests

The steep slopes down to Lyadalen and Sinarpsdalen are covered in deciduous forest. In spring you can hear a lively chorus of small birds such as gray flycatchers, warblers and green warblers. A variety of herbs, mosses and lichens grow in the calcareous and moist deciduous groves. Forest fescue, ostrich fern, magic grape and musk madder thrive here, as does the rare moon violet.

Lyabäcken stream

Lyabäcken, which crosses the northern part of the reserve, plunges down towards Sinarpsdalen in small rapids and falls. In the cold and clear water lives a local trout population. If you're lucky, you might spot the grayish-yellow brown trout, which returns from warmer latitudes as early as March or early April.

Pastures and ancient monuments

Undulating pastures spread out above the leafy slopes. Burial mounds, cairns and stone circles are clearly visible in the open pasture landscape. Alongside ancient remains and rocky outcrops, thyme, cranesbill and cuckoo pea grow. South of Varegården there is a cliff about six meters high, which according to legend is said to have served as an ancestral stupa in the past.

Outdoor life

Lyadalen is located on Hallandsås (Hallandsåsen), which rises just south of Båstad. From Båstad sports center you can follow Skåneleden SL1 (stage 21, orange) and Axeltorpsslingan Link to another website, opens in new window. (9 km, yellow) out of the community and further into Lyadalen nature reserve. Initially you pass the Lyadalen stream ravine and lush forests. But as the steeply sloping road takes you further up the slope, the landscape opens up. Once up on the ridge, both the view of Brattenborg and fine views of Bronze Age mounds in the open pastures northwest of the road await you. To get a circular loop, continue to follow Skåneleden/Axeltorpsslingan further into the nature reserve Axelstorps skogar Link to another website.. In the southern part of Axelstorps skogar, turn off the road and Skåneleden and continue on the smaller paths of Axeltorpsslingan. Here awaits a wooded and impressive stream gorge with waterfalls. The terrain is hilly and the path slopes steeply. On the other side of the ravine you leave the reserve. The path first goes through pastures before you come out on a road again that leads you down the ridge and back to Båstad community. There is no parking in Lyadalen. Start from Båstad station or Sinarpsdalen parking lot (Nötte slopes). Remember to take your trash home.
