Description

Exciting swamp forest, mighty oaks and a history that invites you to dance. 100 years ago, Ekenabben was Kristianstad's entertainment center. Today we enjoy the area's wonderful nature. The name comes from the fine old oaks that grow at the far end of the headland.

In the first half of the 20th century, Ekenabben was known for something completely different - it was a thriving entertainment palace. Older Kristianstad residents remember how they enjoyed themselves in the dance pavilion. Stars such as Zarah Leander and Edvard Persson performed on the outdoor stage. Traces of the dance pavilion's stairs and thujas still remain. But today, visitors come here to enjoy peace and quiet in a varied natural environment with an oak grove, a swamp forest and contact with Lake Hammar.

Enjoy the birds' spring concert

On an early spring morning you can enjoy a real bird choir when nightingales, swifts and blackcaps chime in and the woodpecker keeps the beat with its drum rolls.

The fishing pier is the best place for a coffee break on a late summer morning and there is a good barbecue area by the beach. Follow the path past century-old oaks to the bird tower with a view of beach meadows and reed beds.

An exciting footpath leads out into a wild swamp forest. Woodpeckers, water striders, ticks and insects come close on the path. The swamp forest feels like a real primeval forest, but is man-made. When Hammarslundsvallen was built to create more agricultural land, the masses for the embankment were taken here. What remained were waterlogged shafts where the alder forest grew up.

Accessibility

A nature trail on wooden footbridges leads into the Ekenabben swamp forest. It is easy to get around with a wheelchair or pram. The boardwalks have raised edges that serve as paths. At the start of the nature trail, next to the parking lot, there is a shorter section (1.3 m) with a slope of 12%. Some parts of the nature trail consist of a gravel path. Benches are placed on the footbridges and along the landscaped walkway at the far end of the nature trail. The area also has an accessible fishing pier out into Hammarsjön, picnic tables, a canopy and a barbecue area.

More detailed information and accessibility can be found on the Equality website.
