Åsvikelandet och Torrö

If you want to hike with a view of the sea, these are the trails for you. In the southernmost part of the Östergötland Archipelago lie four nature reserves that together form one of the largest contiguous nature conservation areas on the Baltic Sea coast. Here you can experience the unique archipelago landscape, a rich variety of birdlife, and beautiful hiking trails. Starting point: The parking lot at the Åsvikelandet Nature Reserve

There is an information sign at the trailhead. After parking your car at the first parking lot along the road to Torrö, walk back along the road for 200 meters and turn right into the pasture. After another 400 meters, you’ll pass the site of “old” Nässveden. After another 600 meters, you’ll exit the pasture and soon reach the site of “new” Nässveden. You’re now almost at Långstadudden, where there’s a trash bin, an outhouse, and a barbecue area. Unfortunately, the wind shelter at Långstadudden burned down on July 21, 2026. At this time, it is unclear whether the County Administrative Board will be able to build a new one. Now you’ll begin to look out toward the open sea. Watch your step on the rocks from here on—the moss can be very slippery!

After hiking another 400 meters, you’ll reach Munkhamn. Munkhamn is a small cove that, according to tradition, was a place where people would anchor for the night when traveling between Denmark and Estonia on cog-type cargo ships from the 13th century onward.

After about 300 meters, once you’re up on the highest hills, you can see the houses out on Hamnö. They’re the only houses you’ll see today—this area is certainly not densely populated—in other words, a paradise for anyone who enjoys the archipelago setting in self-chosen solitude.

After another 400 meters or so, you’ll reach Markens Udde, where you can enjoy the open sea. Once you’ve had your fill of the view from Markens Udde, follow the trail along the bay and you’ll return to Torrövägen. When you reach the road, turn right, and after 1.2 km, you’ll be back at your car—probably a little tired, but full of new impressions and fresh air, and with your eardrums having had a rest for several hours.

Ollondalen Loop Trail, 6.4 km
If you follow the loop counterclockwise, your hike begins on a forest trail that winds through valleys and forested ridges along the eastern side of Breviken. After a few kilometers, the landscape opens up and you’ll emerge into beautiful, open pastureland. Here you’ll find small hills, lovely trees, and shrubs. After about 3 km of hiking, you’ll reach the Västra Stäket rest area with a lovely view of the sea. There is a dry toilet and a fire pit here. The trail then takes you out of the forest and onto a gravel road. To the south, you’ll reach Torrö; turn left and follow the gravel road back to the starting point.

Around Torrö 11–15 km
Shortly after the parking lot at the Åsvikelandet Nature Reserve, take the trail to the right toward Västra Stäket. After 3.5 km, when you’re back on the road toward Torrö, turn right toward the island; after 1.4 km, you’ll reach the bridge.

Here and there, the sea has been visible, but once you cross over to Torrö, the horizon opens up. At the bridge abutment, there’s a picnic area, and here you can choose to take the loop trail to the left. Or you can continue along the road to the village of Torrö, where the same loop turns left into the forest.

The trails on Torrö total about 6.5 kilometers and consist of several shorter sections that can be combined in various ways. A dry toilet and trash can are located on the headland at Skeppskroken, north of the village of Torrö.

On the eastern side of Torrö, there is also an old, renovated pilot’s cottage that can be booked for overnight stays, Torrös Lotsstuga. There is also a dry toilet here.

In many places, the trail runs close to the sea on flat rock slabs, and there are plenty of opportunities for swimming.
