Description
The building was built in the second half of the 18th century. Originally, it was a shelter for travelling Sámi who visited the church and markets in the church village. From 1756 to 1912, a state school was run in the house. Usually, the classes consisted of six students at a time, and during the two-year education, the Sámi children were taught Christianity, reading and writing. An underlying goal of the state and the church was to spread Christianity among the Sámi.
