Segolstorpshöjden, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Värmlands län
Actions
Description
A forest fire swept through the area in the 1860s and traces of this can still be seen in the area today.
The reserve consists of older coniferous forest with a high proportion of deciduous trees and younger deciduous forests. The natural values consist of the natural forest environment, where some parts have been unaffected by man for a long time. The nature reserve also contains young forests with scattered old aspens left over from felling.
The reserve was established to preserve a natural forest with its flora and fauna, with elements of rare and endangered species, and to develop new deciduous forest environments.
Animals and plants
The availability of dead wood in various stages of decomposition is abundant and favors several threatened lichens, fungi, mosses, insects and birds. Threatened species that occur include the scented skin, candelabra fungus, ragged beetle, asphodel beetle and three-toed woodpecker.
Several measures have been taken in the reserve to strengthen the area's natural values. For example, an area has been fenced off to encourage the regrowth of deciduous trees that are otherwise heavily grazed by moose. Along the path you can see areas with ring-barked spruces - a measure to create dead wood for the benefit of, among other things, insect life.
