Facts
Bergian Garden
While Bellman was writing poetry about the tavern at Kattrumpstullen, now Roslagstull, Peter Jonas Bergius was walking in his garden at what is now S:t Eriksplan. He was a good friend of Linnaeus and donated the garden to the Swedish Academy of Sciences in return for a professorship being established in his name. In 1885, the Bergian Garden was moved to Frescati.
Today, the Bergian Garden is a botanical garden open to the public, with over 7,000 species, including the giant-leaved Amazonian Victorian rose. The Bergianska also conducts research on biodiversity, especially systematic botany.
