Älvsjöskogens naturreservat

Älvsjöskogen consists largely of steep mountains and marked rift valleys. Pitch pine forest dominates on the peaks where the soil cover is thin or completely absent. A number of coniferous forest birds, such as the sparrowhawk, kingfisher and tufted titmouse, are found in the area, and both goshawks and ravens nest here. Common frog and lesser newt spawn in Vårgårdadammen and in Stora Alkärret (also called Bergtorpskärret). Common toad, common frog, field frog and lesser newt spawn in Långsjön and in the pond next to Långsjön. In the forest there are two illuminated exercise trails, 1,800 meters and 3,800 meters respectively.
