Vallby mosse, Naturreservat

  • Nature reserve
of 5 stars

Actions

Description

In southwest Skåne's intensively cultivated agricultural landscape, wetlands are in short supply. Vallby mosse, Staffanstorp municipality's first nature reserve, is a valuable feature of the agricultural landscape.

Vallby mosse originally consisted of a dead ice pit that over time became overgrown with peat. After the peat was mined, the pit began to fill with water and take on its current appearance. Today, the bog's water and shore areas are home to a trivial but species-rich flora dominated by nitrogen-rich species such as rushes, reeds, nettles and various types of sedge.

Vallby bog has an important function as a resting and nesting place for ducks, among others. Among the nesting birds are gray partridge, moorhen and mute swan.

Keep in mind that it can be difficult to get around Vallby mosse because the nature reserve borders both arable land and private plots.
