Gánijvárre
- Nature reserve
- County: Norrbottens län
Actions
Description
Gánijvárre
mountain, reaching 460 meters above sea level, is the most prominent peak in
the area, characterized by its rocky and dry landscape. The ancient pine
forests here are home to trees aged 200-500 years, many bearing fire scars from
past wildfires, with the last major fire occurring around 1828.
The area’s low
human impact is evident through the abundance of deadwood, creating crucial
habitats for many endangered species. The geological foundation is part of the
ancient Norrbotten bedrock, with traces of glacial movement visible in the
south.
