Description

Distance: approx. 130 km
Time: 6–8 hours

Discover one of Sweden's most remarkable storytelling landscapes on this self-guided road trip through the Land of Legends (Sagobygden).

Your journey begins at the Museum of Legends in Ljungby before following quiet country roads east towards your first legendary sites: The Troll Blacksmith of Nockarp, Agundaborg with its augmented reality experience, and Halta Kajsa in Ryd.

After Agunnaryd, make time for one of the highlights of the day. A short detour leads to Granhultsberget, where a 45–60 minute walk takes you to Trollsoffan and a panoramic viewpoint overlooking forests and rocky hills. Continue to The Trolls of Kuggaberg, where folklore and dramatic landscapes come together.

Throughout the day you'll travel through a changing landscape of spruce forests, beech woods, rocky ridges, traditional farmland, stone walls and classic red Swedish farmhouses. Lakes appear around almost every corner, making the journey just as memorable as the destinations themselves.

The route passes several beautiful swimming spots, including Stensjön, Agunnaryd Lake, Ryssby Lake, Flåren, Vidöstern, Flyxen, Lake Bolmen, Kösen, the Bolmån River and the Lagan River. If you're travelling during summer, don't forget your swimsuit.

For lunch or a coffee break, consider stopping in Ryssby or Flattinge, where you'll find cafés and places to enjoy local flavours before continuing your journey.

The second half of the route leads you to St Birgitta's Spring, How Hörda Village Was Repopulated After the Black Death, Hacka-Eva, Cliff Burton's Memorial Stone, Fika Cross, The Priest's Stone, Pila Kull, The Iron Cross of Hylte, Skea Dåre, Ebbe Skammelsson, The Lady of Pintorp at Bolmarö Manor, and finally Högarör, one of Småland's largest Bronze Age burial mounds.

Allow 30–45 minutes to explore Högarör before completing your journey back to Ljungby.
