Artwork: Stående

Kenneth Johansson is
known for his monumental stone sculptures, mainly in diabase. He studied at
Konstfack (University of Arts, Crafts and Design) in Stockholm and has a
background as a painter. While you can see a clear connection between his
sculptures, each one is a new experience that is thought-provoking and
sometimes a little difficult to interpret.

The surface of the
stone has been treated to reflect light, bringing out a spectrum of colours
that form exciting contrasts in the stone; for example, hard becomes soft and
heavy becomes light. The sculpture ‘Stående’ (Standing) in diabase stands
outside the entrance to the former Kulturhuset (Culture House) Cupolen, where
the restaurant Pinchos, and Friskis & Svettis (keep-fit) are located today.
Purchased by the Municipality of Värnamo in 1989.
