Bojsvätar södra, Naturreservat

This is the southern of two nature reserves surrounding the large Bojsvätar marsh. The idea is that the reserves will be merged in the future, as the whole marsh is protected.
Bojsvätar is a large, open, rich marsh surrounded by forest. When you stand at the edge of the marsh and look out over the expanse, you easily get a sense of desolation. A stream runs through the marsh. The stream takes you from the more lush marsh in the north, where the buttonwood and orchids grow densely, to the almost completely unvegetated pale marshes in the south. Only the most delicate herbs can survive here. The bleaching marshes were once the bottom of a lake, before the lake was drained. That's why it's still called Västers Swamp.

The forest around Bojsvätar is old. Late-growing spruces grow on moist, mossy soil. This means that there are many rare species of mosses, lichens and fungi. In the midst of the dense coniferous forest, a sudden abundance of coarse deciduous trees grows among stone paths and house foundations. Then you arrive at Ramsänge, a settlement from the Iron Age. In our time, the land has been used as meadowland, something the old oaks testify to.
