Description

Tornmyran, right next to Voxnan, is a large flark marsh that slopes gently to the south. The bog, with its distinct strands and flanks, is almost unique in the county in terms of its size, appearance and unspoiled nature. In the area you can walk on the forest road near the reserve or roam freely. Tornmyran is located 6 kilometers southeast of Rullbo and covers 191 hectares.

The nature reserve consists of a vast untouched bog complex with several small lakes, running streams and old forest with high natural values. The area is a valuable environment for many birds.

The large flarkärret at Tornmyran slopes gently to the south. Flarkar are elongated, often water-filled depressions in sloping marshes where water clover, meadowsweet, grasses and various species of sedges grow. Between the flanks are winding strands of drier vegetation with rice and lean bog pines.

Rich bird life on the mire

Many waders, ducks and grebes come to Tornmyran's water-rich marshes to raise their young. Or to rest during spring and fall migrations. Here you may come across dunlin, snipe and teal, among others. Cranes and black grouse also nest in the area.

Dwarf cuckoo and meadowlarks

Species that require richer nutrient conditions grow at the outlet of the bog to the south. For example, pondweed, dwarf lily and meadowsweet - the latter an orchid that can grow over half a meter high and blooms in June-July.

Mowing, grazing and timber

Tornmyran was probably previously used for grazing or haymaking. And the surrounding forests have been used for forestry. Old maps show roads on which timber was transported down to Voxnan where the timber was then floated.
