Ellen Key (1849 - 1926) was a world-famous writer, educator, peacemaker, feminist and visionary. She had the Strand house built after deciding not to buy back her beloved childhood home, Sundsholm Manor in Tjust. Ellen came to love Vättern and Östergyllen. She quickly settled here, even though she was nearly sixty when she moved here in 1910.
